About the Internship

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is conducting its Online Short Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for the month of August 2025. This two-week full-time internship is designed to educate students about various human rights issues and the functioning of NHRC. The programme includes interactive sessions, group projects, virtual field visits, and discussions with eminent personalities in the field.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must belong to one of the following categories:

  • Students in the 3rd year or later of a 5-year integrated postgraduate course
  • Students in the 3rd or final year of a graduation course
  • Students of any year/semester of a postgraduate degree course (including 3-year LL.B.)
  • Students of any year/semester of a postgraduate diploma course
  • Research scholars from any stream

Minimum Academic Requirement:

At least 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent examinations. Candidates must mention the percentage conversion formula if using CGPA/SGPA. Failure to do so will result in rejection.

Age Limit:
Applicants should not be more than 28 years old as of 1st July 2025.


Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents online only:

  1. Statement of Purpose (250 words):
    Titled “Statement of Purpose for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship”, highlighting research interest in human rights and any relevant co-curricular experience.
  2. Self-attested copies of mark sheets:
    • Class X and XII
    • All semesters of graduation
    • All semesters of the ongoing course
  3. Letter of Recommendation:
    From the concerned HOD/Dean/Principal, dated after the release of the internship notification, in the prescribed format.

Note: Incomplete applications or submissions via email/post will be rejected.


Course Structure

  • Sessions on contemporary human rights issues
  • Interaction with NHRC Chairperson, Members, and senior government officials
  • Group project work on human rights themes
  • Book review assignments
  • Virtual visits to institutions like jails, police stations, and NGOs
  • Screening of films on issues like bonded labour, trafficking, education, and mental health

Full attendance is mandatory. Leave applications will not be entertained.


Stipend

All selected interns who successfully complete the internship will receive a stipend of Rs. 2000.

Additionally, a certificate of participation will be awarded based on:

  • Punctuality and attendance
  • Discipline and engagement in sessions
  • Timely submission of group projects, book reviews, and reports

Important:
Applicants who have previously attended any NHRC internship are not eligible. Any discrepancies in marks or misstatements may result in permanent disqualification from future NHRC programmes.
